Vandals Hit Former Maple Grove Library

Investigators have no reason to believe the vandals were specifically targeting the incoming Jardin Magico Spanish immersion daycare and preschool.

Maple Grove police are investigating the vandalism of the former Maple Grove Library that is set to become a Jardin Magico Spanish immersion daycare and preschool.

Someone spray painted vulgarities at the site, located at 8351 Elm Creek Blvd., sometime between Thursday and Sunday, Police Capt. Tracy Stille said.

Investigators do not have any witnesses. They do not have any reason to believe the crime was bias motivated or that the daycare was specifically targeted, Stille said. Both construction company equipment and portable toilets were vandalized, but police don’t think those companies were being specifically targeted either.

“It’s kind of strange because it’s right in the business district,” Stille said.

The former library building sat vacant for nearly a year before Steven Fischer, who is the CEO and co-founder of Arrow Companies in Maple Grove, closed on the $1.5 million sale Nov. 15.

Renovation of the 14,000-square-foot building is expected to be complete in the fall.
