Cold Snap: What You Should Know In Maple Grove

The National Weather Service predicts a low of -26 degrees Fahrenheit over the next couple days. Check here for local delays and closings.

Maple Grove and Osseo students will enjoy a day off Monday thanks to Gov. Mark Dayton’s decision to order a rare statewide cancellation of public schools due to dangerously cold weather

The National Weather Service predicts a low of -26 degrees Fahrenheit Sunday followed by a high of -17 degrees Monday. Winds of 10 to 15 mph will further add to the bitter cold. Conditions will improve a bit on Tuesday but not much.

The governor is leaving the decision up to districts of whether or not to cancel school on Tuesday as well, however, that decision has not yet been made at Osseo Schools.

From the district: "The governor’s decision to cancel school on Monday means that classes and after-school/evening activities will be cancelled that day. Plan to have your student return to school as usual on Tuesday, Jan. 7, unless otherwise notified by the school district."

Buses
Maple Grove Transit plans on operating all trips as scheduled on Monday, Jan. 6. Riders should dress appropriately in the event of a bus delay.

Any service modifications, additions or cancellations related to weather will be announced on the Maple Grove Transit’s Emergency Information Hotline 763-494-5994.

Parks
The downhill operation at Elm Creek Winter Recreation Area in Maple Grove will be closed from 3 p.m. Sunday to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Three Rivers Parks will operate under normal hours on Monday, although some public programs may be modified. Cross-country ski trails will be open but ski rentals will not be available. Trails will not be groomed Sunday through Tuesday.
