An updated statement was issued by Xcel Energy at 4:30 p.m. June 21 which stated, in part:

At this hour, crews continue work to restore service as quickly and safely as possible to an estimated 25,000 customers in the Twin Cities metro area and an additional 19,600 customers without service in the St. Cloud area. Currently, Xcel Energy estimates that power will be restored to the vast majority of Twin Cities-area customers by midnight Sunday and the vast majority of customers in the St. Cloud area by Monday afternoon. More severe weather tonight and during the weekend could also affect restoration times.

Update (1:37 p.m. Friday, June 21)
: Nearly 12 hours after the first power outages were reported in Maple Grove, hundreds of Maple Grove residents continue to be without power.

As of approximately 1:40 p.m., Wright Hennepin told customers via Twitter
We expect the majority of members to have their power restored by 8 p.m. It is our hope that all members be restored by noon Saturday.

WCCO.com reported that an Xcel Energy representative stated it could be "a couple days" before power was restored to some customers.

“A lot of the damage is from the lines in the smaller sections of the grid, and maybe even lines going to customers homes.  Those just take longer, because (crews) go one-by-one to fix that," Xcel Energy Mary Sandok told WCCO.com. Read the full WCCO.com report here.

Update (10:06 a.m. Friday, June 21):
Xcel Energy released the following statement around 9 a.m. Friday morning for Minnesota.

A severe band of thunderstorms moved through Minnesota early Friday morning, June 21. The storm caused significant damage to our electric system, including a number of downed poles and power lines. Outages are scattered throughout the state, with approximately 130,000 customers without power at this time.

We are currently assessing the damages and no restoration time is yet available. Additional crews from the North and South Dakota and other utilities have been coordinated to assist with restoration efforts. Please stay away from downed power lines and always assume a downed wire is energized and therefore dangerous. Report downed power lines to Xcel Energy at 1-800-895-1999 or call 9-1-1.

Power remains out for hundreds of Maple Grove residents, according to Xcel Energy's online outage map, which did not have an estimated restoration time listed.
