Maple Grove Girls, Osseo Boys Win At Tip Off Classic

Osseo vs. DeLaSalle is the feature game of this year's Breakdown boys' Tip Off Classic as it showcases two of the most talented teams in the state.

Maple Grove's girls and Osseo's boys basketball teams won convincingly at last weekend’s Breakdown Sports USA Girls’ Tip Off Classic. 

The 10th-annual event featured 12 girls’ games and three boys’ games played at Hopkins’ Lindbergh Center. Fifteen of the 24 girls’ teams are in Breakdown Sports’ top 15 preseason rankings, including the No. 1 team in all four classes.

Maple Grove played in the first game of the day, beating Rochester John Marshall, 57-42.

This was the only matchup of the day that did not include a ranked team, but tournament organizers determined that Maple Grove and Rochester John Marshall are both "up-and-coming teams who feature some great young players" and included them in the tournament. Maple Grove was led by Kaela Jones with 17, Julie Hagert with 11 and Mackenzie Barta with 10. 

The Osseo boys beat Eastview, 50-40, in a highly defensive game played in Minnetonka.

Osseo will return Saturday (Dec. 14) for the Boys’ Tip Off Classic at Minnetonka High School. The event features 15 boys’ games. Twenty-three of the 30 teams are ranked in Breakdown Sports’ top 15 preseason rankings, including the No. 1 team in two of the four classes.
