Shooting Range near Osseo Sr. High School Gets City OK

The new Osseo Gun Club development won approval on a 3-1 vote, KARE 11 and the Star Tribune reported.

A controversial shooting-range development near Osseo Senior High School got a thumb's up from the Osseo City Council, the Star Tribune reported

"The $3.3 million Osseo Gun Club divided the community because of its location two blocks from schools and drew dozens of Twin Cities gun owners to recent council meetings, arguing that the gun club would meet the needs of a growing group of gun owners and attract visitors to the northwestern suburb. ...

"Some residents and school leaders said it wasn’t the right location, less than 500 feet from the junior and high schools. School district leaders didn’t comment Tuesday on the city’s approval of the project but said at past meetings that they were worried gun owners walking from the gun club with firearms could be mistaken as a threat to school safety, spurring lockdowns."

KARE 11 explained just how close the development is to Osseo Senior High School

"The location is across the street from the Osseo Police Department and two blocks away from Osseo Senior High School.

"The nearly 18,000 square-foot facility would include a 20-lane firing range, retail space, and gun safety classrooms. The cost of the project is more than $3 million. Construction could begin by September."
