Maple Grove’s Nadia Cakes Makes an Appearance on Cupcake Wars
The Maple Grove business appeared on the Food Network Saturday evening, with a successful first round before going home in round two.
After winning a “Cupcake Wars” victory earlier this year, Nadia Cakes was invited back to appear on the Food Network show be on season nine as a returning winner.
The first episode of season nine aired Saturday night. After a successful first round, the Maple Grove business went home in round two. The Food Network “Cupcakes Wars” episode was the Honest Company episode so our guest judge was Jessica Alba.
Nadia Cakes CEO/Executive Chef Abby Jimenez and Kitchen Manager Leslie Weiner made the trip to California in June to tape the show.

“The show flew us out to California a few days before filming and put us in a really cool hotel in Santa Monica. Filming starts at 4:30 in the morning and goes all day,” Jimenez told Patch in an email
“We did great in round one and the judges loved our cupcake the Sweet Potato Banana and Avocado Cake,” Jimenez said.

Round two brought an Orange Vanilla Cheesecake with a shortbread crust and strawberry compote – and a cornbread cupcake.
“Unfortunately we totally ruined our cornbread cupcake in round two. It was basically raw,” Jimenez wrote to Patch. “We realized after filming what we did to it. We pureed the bell peppers and onions in a food processor instead of chopping them like we normally do and it put too much liquid in the batter. It never baked. It was awful! LOL! We went home in round two.”
As a follow up to the episode airing on Saturday, Sept. 7, Nadia Cakes in Maple Grove is planning on having two cupcakes in their shop on Sunday, Sept. 8, according to Jimenez.

And, best part about the trip to California?
“The best part about being on the show wasn't actually being on the show,” Jimenez said. “It was watching them film Thor 2 on the studio lot the day before we filmed! We met Jaimie Alexander who was in full costume. She came over and was chatting with us about the show and laughing at the quotes on our delivery truck. We also saw Tom Hiddleson who plays Loki! It was so cool! We just sat there for about three hours watching the actors walk back and forth.”
Nadia Cakes has two locations, one in Maple Grove and one in Palmdale, Calif.
