Photos: Storm Damage in Maple Grove

Two storms hit Maple Grove June 21, bringing down trees, branches and knocking out power.

In the aftermath of storms moving through Maple Grove Friday, June 21, trees remained down throughout the community.

One of the worst hit areas included the Eagle Lake neighborhoods - Eagle Lake Regional Park remained closed Saturday morning.

After power was returned after several hours of being out June 21, several hundred residents remain without power Saturday morning. Wright Hennepin is reporting more than 200 without power as of 10 a.m. June 22, according to the WH outage map.

"Crews continue to work as 1,848 members remain without power due to the second round of storms that passed through late yesterday evening," Wright Hennepin shared around 8 a.m. June 22 via Twitter.

More than 1,000 Xcel Energy customers are without power in Maple Grove, including areas of Brooklyn Park, New Hope and Crystal and Plymouth, according to the Xcel outage map as of 10 a.m. June 22.

The following statement was released at 7:30 a.m. June 22 by Xcel Energy.

"Last night's storm produced heavy rain, strong winds, lightning and hail, resulting in significant damage to our distribution infrastructure in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. The number of customers impacted by the new weather event is now estimated at 276,000.

Xcel Energy crews and contractors have restored service to more than 214,000 customers from the onset of this event which has seen 475,000 customers affected. 

We continue to assess the situation and determine a course of action for the large-scale restoration. Given the extent of the damage, restoration times will be prolonged, as this develops into a significant multi-day event. 

Our crews will continue to work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to the impacted customers."

"Storm update: The following locations are currently without power: Northeast, Roosevelt, St Anthony, Hosmer, Wayzata, and Webber Park. Plymouth has power, but no phones or computers."
