I-94 Reconstruction Could Mean Delays for Twin Cities Cabin Commuters

A 2013 resurfacing project on I-94 from Clearwater to St. Cloud could bring potential backup of up to 20 miles or more during peak travel times, according to MnDOT.

As the Minnesota winter gives way to spring, road construction projects around the Twin Cities and Minnesota are gearing up for another season. Among the projects is a resurfacing 7.5 miles of Interstate 94 north of the Twin Cities from Clearwater to St. Cloud.  The Minnesota Department of Transportation estimates the project could impact a backup of traffic of “20 miles or more during peak travel periods.” With residents in the northwest metro getting ready to make travel plans for spring and summer, MnDOT is urging drivers to consider an alternate route during the Clearwater to St. Cloud I-94 reconstruction project. “Find the best route that works for you based on where you’re leaving from and when and your destination,” said J.P. …

MnDOT is notorious for providing inaccurate, outdated information. Their project websites seem to rarely be updated and the road signage warning of lane closures is often inaccurate--seemingly forgotten to have been picked up after the work was done. Get with the times, MnDOT! There is no reason that the project websites shouldn't be updated on a daily/weekly basis (or as needed). It's a simple, …   more ›

So, did Colonel Mustard delete his own comment, or was it deleted for him/her? Seriously if you had actually read my comments, you would see that they are not about the bridge project, but about this group that feels they are somehow entitled to tax payer dollars to do something that our tax dollars are already paying for. Nice though, you really tried to bring the level of conversation down to a…   more ›

Cold Temperature Complicates Snow, Ice Removal from Roads in Maple Grove, Twin Cities

Maple Grove Director of Public Works Ken Ashfeld: "Due to the conditions in which the snow fell, under heavy traffic and then plummeting temperatures, we have ice conditions whereby the actions of deicing agents had little effect during Monday."

Two days after most of the Twin Cities area, including Maple Grove, received more than 10 inches of snow, traveling the roadways remained complicated in spots. The Minnesota Department of Transportation addressed the road conditions in a Dec. 11, 2012 statement on the Minnesota Department of Transportation Facebook page:  MnDOT continues addressing the compacted snow and icy conditions on highways and interstates—particularly in southwestern/west central Minnesota and the Twin Cities Metro area. The cold temperatures are complicating our work, because salt becomes much less effective at 10 degrees or lower. Temps will warm over the next couple days, which will make the salt compounds we’ve been putting on the roads MUCH more effective. …

I use the Parkway Station 3 - 5 days a week and it works out really well. I just hope they have a parking solution during construction so it is not a hassle to find a parking spot. I use that station because it is not as crowded and it is close to home. I am sure it will be nice when it is done and to possibly park under cover would be nice both in the summer and winter. I am not sure they really…   more ›
