Homeowner: “I thought a bomb went off.”
As heavy rains and thunderstorms moved through Maple Grove Sunday, May 19, a Maple Grove home on the 9900 block of Troy Lane was struck by lightning. Homeowner Deb McGray said the lightning hit the home shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday morning. “I thought a bomb went off,” she said, stating the sound was “horrific.” McGray said her husband went out the front door, saw the house on fire and advised her to call 911. Approximately 30 to 40 Maple Grove firefighters from two stations were at the home Sunday morning working on the home. The fire was reported around 8 a.m. Saturday, May 4.
Four of the Maple Grove Fire Department stations responded to a house fire on the 7600 block of Mariner Place North around 8 a.m. Saturday, May 4. More than five people live in the home, according to Maple Grove Fire Chief Scott Anderson, who indicated there were no injuries reported. The fire had reportedly started in the basement and had spread to the upper floor by the time crews had arrived. As of approximately 9:30 a.m., crews remained on the scene clearing remaining hot spots in the house. Anderson said the rest of the morning would be spent investigating the cause of the fire. Crews from St. Michael, Albertville, Maple Grove, Loretto, Hanover, Osseo, Hamel, Anoka-Champlain, Rogers, Ramsey, Brooklyn Park, St. Louis Park, Andover and Dayton were among those that battled the fire Thursday on the rural property.
At least 12 fire departments responded to a fire in rural Dayton Thursday afternoon. The fire started at about 3 p.m. near the corner of North Diamond Lake Road and Zanibar Lane in Dayton. Neighbor Terry Bodell said he saw the fire when he came home at about 3 p.m. and thought that it been going for a little while. Property owner Adrian Dahlheimer told Patch the fire seemed to have started near some hay and a feed barn. There are no injuries, and the sheep on premise got out safely. As of 5 p.m. Thursday, the fire had destroyed a trailer home and a shed, and firefighters were battling multiple fires on the property.
