Elm Creek Park Reserve Play Area Opens for 2013 Season

The play area in nearby French Regional Park in Plymouth is also open.

After an extended winter, including spring snow, several outdoor play areas in the Three Rivers Park District have now opened for the 2013 season - including the play area at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove. Three Rivers Park District has several play areas at other parks throughout the Twin Cities as well, according to their website, including: A representative from the Three Rivers Park District confirmed the play area openings as of May 7. The play area at North Mississippi Regional Park in Minneapolis currently remains closed. Children and their parents headed for the tropic feel of the nature center at Elm Creek Park Reserve and a Winter Beach Party. If you missed it Friday, a second party takes place Saturday.

Cross County Ski Lessons in the Three Rivers Park District

From beginners to intermediate, a variety of cross county skiing lessons are available Jan. 26, 2013 to Feb. 9, 2013.

FRENCH REGIONAL PARK Classic Beginner I: Basics Saturday, Jan. 26, from 10-11:30 a.m., at French Regional Park, Plymouth. This class covers cross-country skiing basics, including putting on equipment, falling down and getting up, diagonal stride, stopping, turning, and a brief introduction to small hills. Children, Family Programs at Three Rivers Parks in December

Snowmaking Begins at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove

The Elm Creek Winter Recreation Area expects, weather permitting, to open sometime mid-December 2012.

Three Rivers Park District is now conducting full snowmaking operations at the Elm Creek Winter Recreation Area in Elm Creek Park Reserve, Maple Grove as well as Hyland Ski & Snowboard Area in Bloomington.   Elm Creek Winter Recreation Area expects, weather permitting, to open sometime mid-December and HSSA anticipates opening Thursday, Nov. 29. Elm Creek Winter Recreation Area is not only making snow for downhill skiing and snowboarding, but for 2.5K of cross-country skiing and for snow tubing as well. Leonid Meteor Shower 2012: Where to Watch in, around Maple Grove

The Leonid meteor shower will peak on Nov. 17 and Nov. 20.

Keep your eyes on the sky during the pre-dawn hours of Nov. 17-20, because that's when the famous Leonid meteor shower is expected to peak. These meteors are fast (about 40 miles per second) and can leave trails of smoke, according to Astronomy.com. They will appear to radiate from the constellation Leo the Lion and can vary in color. "Many Leonids are also bright. Photos: Eastman Nature Center Grand Re-Opening

The long awaited nature center at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove reopened to the public Sunday, Oct. 14.

After more than a year of construction, the Eastman Nature Center at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove reopened to the public Oct. 14 with a grand opening event. The center has been out of commission since 2011 while the new Three Rivers Park District nature facility was built. In the interim, classes were spread out nearby parks, such as Fish Lake Regional Park.
