The updated design “will allow the project to compete for future state and federal funds as they become available.”

After observing a moment of silence for the Newtown, CT community, members of the Maple Grove City Council addressed several items at a Dec. 17 meeting – including Highway 610. Details of the revised layout for the Highway 610 extension from County Road 81 to Interstate 94 were first unveiled at a Dec. 11 public meeting (see attached PDF). “This revised layout is the product of a study and follow up design project funded by some of the federal monies for TH [Highway] 610,” Maple Grove Traffic Engineer Marc Culver wrote in a memo to the council. The 18-month study included work between the city, Hennepin County and Minnesota Department of Transportation “to design a project that meets the needs of current and future traffic volumes while …

2011 Year in Review: Maple Grove Roads

The 2011 road construction season was anything but typical in Maple Grove.

Several major road projects nearly surrounded the borders of Maple Grove throughout most of 2011, including the extension of Highway 610 and Bass Lake Road reconstruction. As road construction season began in Maple Grove in the spring, motorists were delayed by some traffic realignments and some roadwork was delayed due to rain related issues.    A heavy rainfall the weekend of May 22 ended up causing a mudslide of stockpiled material on County Road 81, part of the Highway 610 project. As crews cleaned the debris and relocated the dirt, all or portions of County Road 81 were closed for several weeks. Traffic detoured onto nearby Fernbrook Lane and County Road 30 caused delays and traffic jams for motorists traveling through the area. With …

According to MnDOT, the road is being repaired and resurfaced and will be reduced to one or two lanes as needed until early July. Westbound County Road 81 in Maple Grove Reopens

Eastbound County Road 81 in Maple Grove remains closed indefinitely.

Westbound County Road 81 in Maple Grove between Elm Creek Boulevard and Fernbrook Lane is scheduled to reopen to a single lane of traffic starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT). Eastbound County Road 81 will remain closed indefinitely. The official detour for eastbound traffic is south on Fernbrook Lane to County Road 30 and east to County Road 81. I was dissapointed that the notification of the closure for east bound traffic isn't given until you are on County Road 81. Traffic would be less congested if the closure was posted on Maple Grove Parkway so you could detour before reaching Fernbrook. If this is going to be a longer delay, a 2 lane turning lane should be established on northbound Fernbrook onto County Road 30 or 87th Steets.   more ›

Portion of County Road 81 in Maple Grove Closed Indefinitely

Continued “instability of the stockpile” located between both directions of County Road 81 results in road closure.

A partial reopening of County Road 81 (Bottineau Boulevard) in Maple Grove on May 24 was short lived. Due to the “continued instability of the stockpile between the two directions of County Road 81,” the city of Maple Grove resident e-newsletter said the Minnesota Department of Transportation and Highway 610 project coordinator decided to reclose County Road 81 between Fernbrook Lane and Elm Creek Boulevard until further notice. A portion of County Road 81, between 93rd Avenue North (County Road 30) to Fernbrook Lane was completely shutdown part of Monday, May 23 after heavy weekend rainfall caused a mudslide near the site of the Highway 610 project. It was later partially reopened to one lane of traffic in either direction. The initial …
