Osseo Beats White Bear Lake to Advance to State Semifinal

The Orioles girls basketball team will face Edina High School Thursday evening.

In the first round of the 2012 State Class AAAA Girls Basketball Tournament, Osseo Senior High beat #3 seed White Bear Lake Area High School 68-41 Wednesday at the Target Center. The duo of Olivia Antilla and Phillis Webb were some of the keys players during the game, reported mnbasketballhub.com with Webb scoring 22 points, Webb with 20 points. The victory brings the Orioles to the semifinal round at state, facing off against Edina High School 8 p.m. Thursday at the Target Center.

Osseo Beats Maple Grove for Trip to Section Championships

The Orioles beat the Crimson 67-59 in the boys basketball Section 5AAAA semifinal game Tuesday.

The #4 seed Maple Grove Senior High boys basketball team battled against #1 seed Osseo Senior High Tuesday for the chance to move onto the Section 5AAAA championship game. In the end, the Orioles secured the 67-59 victory over the Crimson in the section semifinal game and a chance to move one step closer to a state run. Osseo’s Bridge Tusler (#50) hit 29 points for the Orioles, followed by Ian Theisen (#45) with 15 points and Will Johnson (#30) with 11 points. High scorers for Maple Grove were Jake Wieneke (#25) with 12 points and Brycen Wojta (#15) with 10 points. The Heritage Christian Academy boys basketball team beat Maranatha Christian Academy 71-58.

Heritage Christian Academy beat out #1 seed Maranatha Christian Academy  71-58 in Section 4A semifinal boys basketball action Tuesday at Heritage Christian Academy in Maple Grove. The #4 seed Heritage Christian Academy will meet up with #3 Prairie Seeds Academy for the Section 4A Championship title 5:45 p.m. Friday, March 16 at Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield. Osseo Girls Basketball: 2012 Section 5AAAA Champion

Osseo Senior High’s victory over Centennial High School Friday earned the Orioles a trip to state.

A face off between Osseo Senior High and Centennial High School in girls basketball ended in a 60-48 win for the Orioles, a Section 5AAAA championship and a trip to state. Osseo met up with Centennial Friday at Anoka High School for the Section 5AAAA title. Top scorers for the Orioles were Mikayla Bailey with 17 points, Phillis Webb with 13 points followed by Hayley Swanson with 12 points. In the first round in the 2012 State Class AAAA Girls Basketball Tournament, Osseo (24-5) will play against #3 White Bear Lake Area High School (23-6) 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 14 at the Target Center. Crimson Boys Basketball Makes Late Rally, Lose in OT to Rebels

The loss brings Maple Grove Senior High to 8-6 in the Northwest Suburban Conference.

The Maple Grove Senior High boys basketball team got off to a fast start on Feb. 8 at Champlin Park High School. Behind James Morris’ 14 first half points, the Crimson boys team led 39-29 with a minute to play in the first half.  However, a turnover and a three point field goal by Champlin at the buzzer gave the Rebels a spark they took into halftime. Freshmen JT Gibson played a solid second half as Champlin Park outscored the Crimson 20-9 after the break. Maple Grove was able to attack the Rebel’s zone defense and Brycen Wojta’s three pointer tied the game with less than four minutes to play. However, Matt Juneau’s pair of three point plays kept the Crimson at bay. With less than a minute to play, Jake Wieneke’s steal and layup cut the …

Maple Grove Girls Basketball Falls to Wayzata

The 47-37 loss Thursday brings the Crimson girls basketball team to 5-2 for the 2011 season.

A loss to Wayzata High School Dec. 22 brought the Maple Grove Senior High girls varsity basketball team to a 5-2 season. It was the Crimson’s second loss in a row after starting a 5-0 season. The Crimson lost against the Trojans 47-37 in non-conference play Thursday. Leading the scoring for Wayzata were seniors Marissa Grossfeld with 22 points and Kayla Timmerman hitting 11 points. Junior guard Angie Davison lead the Crimson with 16 points with senior post Emily Eckberg contributing 10 points. Maple Grove heads to Hopkins High School to play in the Dick's Sporting Goods Classic on Dec. 28, 29 and 30. The first game on Wednesday, Dec. 28 will start at 6 p.m. against St. Paul Central. The Osseo Senior High team wins 62-44 over Blaine High School Dec. 20.

  The Osseo Senior High basketball team won at home against Blaine High School Dec. 20. In the 62-44 win, the top scorers for the Orioles were Bridge Tusler (50) with 18 points, Tyler Stromback (32) with 13 points and Ian Theisen (45) and Michael Brush (20) both bringing in 11 points each. The Orioles travel to the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester Dec. 27 for their next game. Crimson Boys Basketball Stay Undefeated in Northwest Suburban Conference Play

Big free throws and balanced scoring help the Maple Grove Senior High boys basketball team find a win against Park Center.

  The following recap of the Dec. 16 Crimson boys varsity basketball game was submitted by the Maple Grove Senior High boys basketball booster club president Darrell Olson. In a game where the lead changed five times in the last 15 seconds, the Maple Grove Senior High boys basketball team escaped Park Center Senior High with a Northwest Suburban Conference win, 71-70 on Friday, Dec 16. The game was close all the way, with neither team able to hold a lead of more than five points all night. Park Center was led by Quentin Hooker, whose 25 points included a clutch, step-back 18 foot jump shot with three seconds to play, to put the Pirates up by one. Crimson Boys Basketball Earns First Season Win

The Maple Grove Senior High boys basketball team won 70-66 over St. Michael High School.

In their second game of the 2011-2012 season, the Maple Grove Senior High came away with their first season win against St. Michael High School Dec. 5. A close game ended with the Crimson on top, 70-66. Maple Grove’s Jake Wieneke scored 28 points for the Crimson, followed by Brycen Wojta with 14 points and James Morris with 12 points, according to mnbasketballhub.com.
