Photos: Maple Grove Half Marathon & 5K

The fifth annual Maple Grove Half Marathon & 5K raised funds for the Maple Grove Lions Club.

More than 1,000 runners participated in the Maple Grove Half Marathon & 5K Saturday, May 12 at Maple Grove Senior High. The fifth annual event benefited the Maple Grove Lions Club. Have photos from the event? Upload them to Patch! We're seeing constitutional amendments precisely because the proposals couldn't make it through the law-making process. Minnesota Fishing Opener Survival Guide

The 2012 Minnesota fishing opener is May 12. Patch provides you with a one-stop-shop for everything you need to know before heading out to fish the lakes in Maple Grove and Minnesota this weekend.

Minnesota has seen more than its fair share of cold, wet and windy fishing openers, but it doesn't look like 2012 will be one of them. Forecasts call for clear skies with morning lows in the upper 40s and afternoon highs in the high 70s. The fishing season officially begins May 12 and Minnesota's Department of Natural Resources (DNR) expects anglers to find a good bite throughout the state. Read the metro area fishing outlook here. Maple Grove Legislators Vote Against Vikings Stadium Bill

Speaker of the House Kurt Zellers, Rep. Joyce Peppin and Sen. Warren Limmer all decided not to support legislation for a new Vikings stadium. The legislation passed through both the Minnesota State Senate and House.

Late Tuesday, May 8, the Minnesota State Senate approved the Vikings stadium bill on a 38-28 vote. After 10 hours of discussion, senators advanced the $975 million plan after including extra fees for parking and items sold at the stadium and other amendments. The vote followed the Minnesota House's approval on Monday of its version of a Vikings stadium bill with a 73-58 vote. A conference committee made up of members of the House and Senate will negotiate a final bill and get approval from their respective bodies. If approved, the final bill could be on Gov. Share Your Photos: Life Time Fitness Alpha Showdown

Community members tested their power, strength, and endurance during the recent Alpha Showdown at several Life Time Fitness locations, including Maple Grove and Plymouth.

Power, strength and endurance were key components during Alpha Showdown at several Life Time Fitness locations Saturday, April 21. A male and female winner from each club location continues on to compete at regionals, with the winners advancing to the national competition.  At the Maple Grove Life Time Fitness location, Lauren Williams (6:21) and Megan Colhour (6:40) each more onto the regional competition. Maple Grove Energy Name New Head Coach

Don Babineau will lead the Maple Grove Energy junior hockey team.

The Maple Grove Energy recently named Don Babineau as the new head coach for the Maple Grove Energy hockey team during the 2012-2013 season. Babineau brings with him 13 years of coaching experience in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League.  The Maple Grove Energy Hockey is a relatively new junior hockey team for players coming out of high school and looking to gain exposure.  "I am very pleased to have Coach Babineau join the Energy," Director of Hockey Cal Ballard said. "As a past assistant coach with Coach Babineau, I know he has the experience and knowledge to put a winning team on the ice."
