The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has a new tool when it comes to deterring drunken driving: Twitter. On Friday night, there will be 150 squads patrolling major corridors in the Twin Cities’ largest-ever, one-night, coordinated DWI enforcement effort. But this effort isn’t notable just because of its size; it will also offer Minnesotans the chance to follow along via Twitter. The Department of Public Safety (@MnDPS_OTS) will tweet the age and gender of those arrested for DWI using the hashtag #May10DWI. Too busy to follow along in real time? A 36-year-old Crystal man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, warrant arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, providing a false name on the 12900 block of 63rd Avenue North April 21. A 30-year-old Eagan woman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia on the 12900 block of 63rd Avenue North April 21. The April 24 fire which destroyed a home on the 7700 block of Chesshire Lane North in Maple Grove.
An investigation has been completed by the Maple Grove Fire Department into the cause of an April 24 house fire that destroyed a home on the 7700 block of Chesshire Lane North. A lamp cord, which overheated and arced, according to the Maple Grove Fire Department, was determined to have started the fire. “The frame of the couch was sitting on top the cord which caused the cord to kink. Black electrical tape was wrapped around the cord approximately 12 inches from the plug. It was unknown if there was previous damage to the cord,” according to the Maple Grove Fire Department incident report. “Arcing was found on several locations on the wire of the cord.” Burn patterns indicated “the fire started behind the couch and burned up and outward,” …

Maple Grove police were searching for the owner of a dune buggy recovered in 2012.
Updated 3:30 p.m. May 7, 2013 According to Maple Grove Police Detective Tanya Petz: "We located the owner on the dune buggy, a local police department responded to a tri county email." 1 p.m. May 7, 2013 Maple Grove Police are searching for the owner of a recovered dune buggy – and asking for the public’s assistance. The dune buggy, pictured right, was found in a trailer stolen from Hanson Implement Storage on the 18400 Bass Lake Road in Maple Grove. The trailer was later recovered Nov.13, 2012 in Brooklyn Center, according to police, who said the dune buggy doesn’t belong to the trailer owner. The fire was reported around 8 a.m. Saturday, May 4.
Four of the Maple Grove Fire Department stations responded to a house fire on the 7600 block of Mariner Place North around 8 a.m. Saturday, May 4. More than five people live in the home, according to Maple Grove Fire Chief Scott Anderson, who indicated there were no injuries reported. The fire had reportedly started in the basement and had spread to the upper floor by the time crews had arrived. As of approximately 9:30 a.m., crews remained on the scene clearing remaining hot spots in the house. Anderson said the rest of the morning would be spent investigating the cause of the fire.
