The event is part of the Law Enforcement week and included highlights suchas dive team demonstrations, extrications using the "jaws of life', mounted patrol and more.

Hennepin County Sheriff Attending Counterterrorism Training in Israel

Sheriff Rich Stanek is learning about homeland security and countering violent extremism that impacts both the U.S. and Israel.

Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek of Maple Grove is currently overseas in Israel, attending an international counterterrorism program. Dubbed "2012 Law Enforcement Mission to Israel," the program is intended to provide attendees with a better understanding of homeland security and countering violent extremism that impacts both Israel and the U.S. The program includes discussions with Israeli government officials, military officers and leading academics, in addition to discussions regarding emergency preparedness from Israeli first responders including police, rescue and bomb disposal. Memorial Bricks Damaged at Maple Grove Arboretum

An unknown person spray-painted several bricks. The damage happened shortly before the May 5 Walk to Remember.

The night before a community event was planned to honor those that have passed on, an unknown individual(s) damaged the memorial bricks at the base of the Angel of Hope statue at the Maple Grove Arboretum Park. The damage consisted of a gold number 12 spray painted on the Memorial Paver bricks, according to the Maple Grove Police Department and was reported May 5. “This was horrible at any time-- but of course- we were all there on Saturday to honor our loved ones at the Walk to Remember,” Sarah Kerbeshian, a member of the Friends of the Angel organization, wrote in an email to Patch. Maple Grove Man Charged with Cocaine Possession, Resisting Arrest

Fabian Michael Garcia was arrested in St. Louis Park after police broke up a party involving underage drinking.

A Maple Grove man has been charged with possession of cocaine and resisting arrest after police broke up an underage drinking party in St. Louis Park. Fabian Michael Garcia, 26, is charged with fifth-degree drug possession, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He is also charged with obstructing the legal process or arrest, a gross misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3,000 fine. According to the criminal complaint, signed by St. Louis Park Police Officer Kevin Frederick, St. Louis Park police were called to a report of a party involving underage drinking in the 4000 block of Meadowbrook Lane on April 29. Handgun Permit Applications Soaring in 2012 for Hennepin County

Permit requests for the first third of 2012 are 54 percent higher than the same time frame in 2011.

The number of handgun carrying permits requested in early 2012 is more than 54 percent higher than the same time frame in 2011, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office reports receiving 1,875 applications for permits to carry through the first four months of 2012. In the same time frame in 2011, only 1,220 applications were turned in. Since the 2003 permit law took effect, 2011 was the second busiest year for new gun permit applications on record. Renewal applications—which are required every five years—typically account for 20 percent of total applications.
