Minnesota State Fair 2012 Ribbon Winners from Maple Grove: Creative Activities

Creativity was rewarded with ribbons for several Maple Grove residents at the Minnesota State Fair 2012.

Here’s a list of the winners in the Creative Activities category:

Robert Munson

• First place – Free hand painting on wood (furniture, large piece). According to Munson, the winning cabinet was painted in original design Norwegian Rosemaling (folk art) and is in honor of the 45 wedding anniversary of he and his wife.
• Second place – Free hand painting on wood (furniture, small piece)
• Second place – Free hand painting on other material
• Second place – Folk painting on wood (handcrafts, senior citizens).

Julie Fletcher

• First place - Decorative crafts (beadwork)
• First and second place – Decorative crafts (Upper Midwest Bead Soceity)

Brad Sukut

• First place – Decorative crafts (paper sculpture or quilling)

Karen Sukut

• Second place - Decorative crafts (paper sculpture or quilling)

Burton Haigh

• Second place – Hardanger (table runner or centerpiece)

Jean Milton

• Second place – King Arthur flour “Great Cake Contest” (special contests)

Betty Boese

• Second place – Scrapbooking (heritage, 12” x 12”)
• Fourth place – Scrapbooking (special occasion)

Bernice Musech

• Second place - Quilting, appliqué or piecing (crib/youth quilt, pieced or appliquéd, hand)
• Fourth place – Quilting, appliqué or piecing (large bed, mixed technique)

Abbe Payton

• Second place – Decorative crafts (beadwork)
• Fourth place – Stained glass (fused glass vessel)

Debbie Espeland

• Second place – Gedney best “original flavor” pickle (special contests)
• Fourth place – Gedney best “no sugar” sweet pickle (special contests)

Jack Knutson

• Third place – Wood construction (small toy)

• Third place – Weaving, knotting, felting and canning (loom weaving, scarf)
