Singletrack Trail Opens at Elm Creek Park Reserve

The 12.7-mile trail in Maple Grove and Dayton provides varying trail difficulty for mountain bikers, hikers, snowshoers and trail runners.

The end of July brought with it the opening of the Elm Creek Singletrack Trail in in Maple Grove.

Stretching 12.7 miles, the new sustainable, singletrack mountain bike trail has 2.2 miles of trail with a difficulty rating of easy, 8.1 miles of trail rated more difficult, and 2.4 miles of trail rated most difficult, according to Three Rivers Park District.

The singletrack trail is expected to be used by mountain bikers, hikers, snowshoers and trail runners. The trailhead and parking lot are located on Hayden Lake Road. No dogs, horses or motorized vehicles are allowed on the trial.

Several partnerships were involved in the trail creation, according to a Three Rivers Park District news release. Volunteers from Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists (MORC) provided trail design, construction labor and ongoing maintenance. Funding for the trail was obtained through grants from the Minnesota Parks and Trails Legacy Program, the Federal Recreational Trail Program, Bikes Belong, , , and Specialized Bicycle Components.

A trail open house is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.
