With just one more race in the season, Lucas Hieb is at the front of the pack in the Minnesota High School Cycling League racing series.

Hieb, who’s with the Osseo Maple Grove High School Mountain Bike Team, finished second at Sunday’s race at Whitetail Ridge. He was slowed by a chain issue, but managed recover and finish only a bike length behind the winner, according to the league.

Hieb entered the race at first place in the overall series standings. His 1,635 points led second place Sean O'Donnell, of Rochester Composite, by 72 points. The league won’t release rankings that factor in Sunday’s race until Wednesday or Thursday. But Hieb should stay in the lead since the winner of the Whitetail Ridge race lagged him by 423 points and entered the race in ninth place.
