Weaver Lake Elementary Receives Magnet School of Excellence Award

The award given to the Osseo School District elementary school recognizes top magnet schools nationwide.

For the third time in four years, school in Maple Grove has been selected for the Magnet School of Excellence Award by the Magnet Schools of America.

“The teachers and staff at Weaver Lake provide an outstanding education for our students. Our young scientists are engaged in learning core academic skills with a focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” Weaver Lake Elementary Principal Gretchen Peel said. “We appreciate the recognition of our curriculum and student achievement from the Magnet Schools of America”

The Magnet Schools of Merit Award program recognizes the top magnet schools nationwide that show “a commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation/diversity efforts, specialized teaching staffs, and parent and community involvement,” according to the Magnet Schools of America website.

In addition to receive the recognition, several third grade teachers will be traveling to the Magnet Schools of America National Conference in Dallas in May to present to educators across the county. Janet O’Connell and Leanne Peterson will present “Value Added Projects in a STEM School” and Alicia Schumacher and Melissa Limesand will present “Blogging to Learn and Connect.”
