School Lunch Prices to Increase in Osseo School District 279

Federal mandate requires the district to increase lunch prices by at least 5 cents for the 2011-2012 school year.

Students taking hot lunch in the next school year will be paying a little more out of pocket for their food.

The Osseo School District School Board unanimously approved increasing school lunch prices by 5 cents for the 2011-2012 school year at its meeting Tuesday, June 7.

The reason for the increase, according to a memo provided to the School Board by District 279 Director of Food Services Tom Pellegrino, is  “because of a new USDA mandate requiring a minimum of a 5 cent increase if a student lunch charge is $2.45 or less.” Current student lunch prices are $2 for elementary students; $2.10 for junior high students and $2.10 for high school students.

The last time lunch prices were increased, according to Pellegrino’s memo, was three years ago when school lunch prices in the District 279 were increased by 10 cents.

Lunches will increase to $2.05 for elementary students; $2.15 for junior high students and $2.25 for senior high students.
