Osseo’s New VEX Robotics Teams Surprise at First Event

Seniors Brandon McDowell, Sam Glasbrenner, Joseph Ewing, Drew Caneff and Victoria Schulte made it to the final match in their first competition in the new VEX platform.

Five of Osseo Senior High students participated in Osseo’s first ever VEX competition with outstanding results. 

Seniors Brandon McDowell, Sam Glasbrenner, Joseph Ewing, Drew Caneff and Victoria Schulte made it to the final match in their first competition in the new VEX platform.  

Out of 22 teams competing, team 2845A the “Osseo Destroyers” and 2845B the “Osseo Ozone” performed beautifully sweeping their way into the finals where they fell short against the top two rated teams in the competition.

“It’s all about the kid," said Robotics Coach John Licciardi. "They made the adjustments that made this happen.”

After 10 qualifying rounds the Osseo teams decided to choose each other during the alliance selection heading into the elimination rounds. Elimination rounds are best of 3 matches to move on. 

The Osseo teams swept the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds 2-0 each. They lost to the red alliance of teams combining from Windom, St. Cloud and a team from Iowa. 

All 5 of the Osseo robotics teams will be competing in St. Cloud on Jan. 25 and also in Menomonie, WI on Feb. 1 for a chance to qualify for state and world competitions.
