Osseo Area Schools Bus Breaks Down in Negative Temperatures

Children made it safely to school after the Feb. 19 bus breakdown.

On Tuesday, Feb. 19, the low temperature was three below zero in Maple Grove when a bus carrying children to Fernbrook Elementary School broke down in a neighborhood near the school.

Osseo Area Schools spokesperson Barb Olson said that a mechanical problem with the bus caused children to wait for 20 minutes while a replacement bus was sent.

“Busses do occasionally have mechanical problems,” Olson said. “In this case, one bus had just dropped children at Fernbrook, so all he had to do was go back and pick up the children.”

Community members took to Maple Grove Patch’s Facebook to express concern.

“I felt bad for the little ones who were waiting at the bus stops when the bus was late,” Kim Haskins Dehn said. “[The children] were warm and arrived safely after another bus picked them up,” added Kelly Wilson Laurance.
