District 279 School Board Approves Facilities Improvement Projects

Several school buildings in Maple Grove, Osseo could see improvements during the 2013 fiscal year.

As part of an ongoing facilities planning process in the , the School Board recently approved the capital and facilities plan for 2013.

The facilities improvement proposal was approved on the consent agenda at the Jan. 10 District 279 School Board meeting. According to documents provided to the School Board, funding for the improvements are projected to be about a $2.7 million facilities levy,  $4.8 million from bonds and $1.6 million from land sale funds.

The tax impact, Assistant Superintendent Kim Riesgraf said in an interview with Patch after the meeting, “will be about the same that it has been in previous years.” Taxpayers would see the impact on their 2013 property tax. Bids and awards for the projects are expected to be comleted by early March 2012.

Here are some highlights for facility improvements in Maple Grove and Osseo for the fiscal year 2013 and the projected cost of the improvement.

  • Controlled entrance -  $25,000

  • Ventilation system balance repair - $100,000 (total includes Oak View Elementary and Edinbrook Elementary)
  • Air cooled chiller - $671,000

  • Paving rehabilitation - $85,000

  • Paving rehabilitation - $189,000

  • Paving rehabilitation - $240,000
  • Ventilation system balance repair - $100,000 (total includes Fernbrook and Edinbrook)

Former Osseo Elementary building

  • Roof replacement - $690,000
  • Remodel - $500,000

  • Pool drain code correction - $40,000

  • Clock/Bell system replacement - $15,000
  • Stage floor replacement - $150,000
  • Flooring replacement - $85,000
  • Electrical panel replacement - $25,000
  • Ceilings, lights for 16 rooms - $75,000
  • Art rooms - $100,000

  • Controlled entrance -  $25,000

  • Roof replacement - $1.3 million

District-wide projects include lockset replacement ($50,000), landscaping at the elementary and secondary schools ($100,00), monument sign upgrades at seven elementary sites ($56,000) and wet roof insulation replacement ($200,000).

Other large facilities projects anticipated in District 279 for fiscal year 2013 include a boiler replacement at Brooklyn Park’s Fair Oaks Elementary ($910,200) and Crest View Elementary ($670,226) as well as a roof replacement at Edinbrook Elementary ($550,000).
