The District 279 Foundation 5K Fun Run raised more than $9,000 to support media centers at Osseo Area School District media centers, the district announced Thursday.
More than 500 runners participated in the race Aug. 17 at Elm Creek Park Reserve. Channel 12’s Dave Kiser emceed, and several mascots were there—Goldy Gopher, TC Bear, Scoopy from Culver’s, Subman from Subway, Wilbur from Famous Dave’s and several Osseo Area Schools mascots. And more than 50 volunteers kept the race running smoothly.
Every child that finished earned a free book.

Dave Schutt, 24, of St. Louis Park, won the race for the men with a time of 18:13. Karen Stenoien, 24, won the women’s race with a time of 22:26.
