District 279 Begins Budget Workshop Process

The Osseo Area Schools community feedback forums came to a close last week. Now, school board members are reviewing comments and getting questions answered in two workshop meetings.

On Feb. 19, the District 279 school board held its first of two workshop sessions in order to fully discuss any lingering issues with the proposed $11 million in budget cuts.

School board members were originally going to have one workshop meeting, but added another session which will take place on Feb. 27.

During the workshops, board members will review community and staff comments. Last week, the last of the community feedback forums concluded, leaving board members with plenty of feedback to sort through.

“The feedback forums went well,” Spokesperson for Osseo Area Schools Barb Olson said. “The conversations were very respectful and productive. We had some really good feedback from folks.”

In total, Olson estimates that about 250 people attended the community meetings. The comments gathered at the meetings will be considered with the rest of the feedback provided to district staff through emails, surveys and phone messages.
