Annual State Math and Reading Exam Results Mixed for Maple Grove District 279 Schools

Results of the annual state math and reading exams were mixed for Maple Grove schools in the Osseo School District 279.

The 2011 math and reading assessment scores were released Sept. 14 by the Minnesota Department of Education.

schools serving students in Maple Grove and Plymouth posted stronger reading scores than the math portion of this year’s annual standardized tests. Secondary math seemed to pose a particular challenge.

students did particularly well in reading, with an average of only 5.1 percent of the school's third through sixth graders categorized as "does not meet standards" or "partially meets standards."

Of the secondary schools, math testing proved to be challenging for the 11th graders with 60.8 percent categorized as "does not meet standards" or "partially meets standards."

Statewide, the Minnesota Department of Education said scores showed a slight improvement in reading and Minnesota students showed "mixed results" in math.
