Westbound County Road 81 in Maple Grove Reopens

Eastbound County Road 81 in Maple Grove remains closed indefinitely.

Westbound County Road 81 in Maple Grove between Elm Creek Boulevard and Fernbrook Lane is scheduled to reopen to a single lane of traffic starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).

Eastbound County Road 81 will remain closed indefinitely. The official detour for eastbound traffic is south on Fernbrook Lane to County Road 30 and east to County Road 81.

County Road 81 was after weekend rains caused a mudslide of a temporary earthen material stockpile near the site of the Highway 610 project.  Shortly after the closure, Maple Grove Public Works Director Ken Ashfeld indicated heavy rains caused “slope failure” in the area, resulting in work by contractors for the Highway 610 project to “reestablish” and “stabilize” the slope.

The roadway was closed in both direction since May 23 “to maintain motorist safety during roadway cleanup activities and stockpile maintenance in the Highway 610 project area as a result of recent storms,” the MnDOT said.

The new Highway 610 alignment includes nearly three miles of four-lane highway between Highway 169 in Brooklyn Park and County Road 81 in Maple Grove.
