Weekend Road Closure: Bass Lake Road in Maple Grove

The heavily traveled Bass Lake Road (County Road 10) in Maple Grove will close temporarily Nov. 4 to Nov. 6.

Starting about 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, Bass Lake Road will be closed between Lawndale Lane and Nottingham Parkway in Maple Grove. The road will be reopen sometime on Sunday Nov. 6. The closure is part of the city's Bass Lake Road (County Road 10) reconstruction project.

Both of these intersections will be open to traffic, the city of Maple Grove said in an email update to residents. Traffic will not be allowed to travel east of Lawndale or west of Nottingham. Traffic will be detoured to County Road 47 south of Bass Lake Road.

Construction will be occurring overnight Friday "to make sure that all the necessary work is finished this weekend and the road is able to open again by Monday morning for the morning rush hour," the city said in an email notification to residents Nov. 3.

"The reason for the closure is that we have to do some work at the creek where the road is at its narrowest point," Maple Grove Traffic Engineer Marc Culver said.  "We need to move the barriers and place some fill to make it as wide as possible for the winter season. This just can't be done under traffic."

The city has worked with the Bass Lake Road project contractor to do the work over the weekend to minimize the impact to the public. Additional information about future traffic switches to sections of new pavement throughout the roadway might be released this week.

Traffic in both directions on Bass Lake Road will move to the new bridge during the winter of 2011 and part of the summer of 2012 while the eastbound bridge is constructed. The speed limit throughout the construction area is 35 miles per hour, according to the city of Maple Grove, will stay at this speed through the winter and most of the summer 2012.

This winter, it is currently planned that traffic will continue its existing alignment from Vicksburg going west through the creek. After the creek, the city said in its email newsletter, traffic will be shifted to the new pavement all the way to and through Lawndale Lane. The two 90 degree turns at Jewel Lane are scheduled to be removed around Nov. 17.

The realignment of Bass Lake Road will turn one of the main roads through Maple Grove into a four lane street with upgraded turning lanes and safer intersections from Vicksburg Lane to County Road 101.

The multi-million dollar roadway project is anticipated to be completed the fall of 2012.
