Republican National Convention 2012: Meet Your Maple Grove GOP Alternate Delegate

Maple Grove resident Neil Lynch traveled with the Minnesota GOP delegation to Tampa for the Republican National Convention 2012.

As Republicans get together this week in Tampa for the Republican National Convention, among them will be Maple Grove’s Neil Lynch.

Neil Lynch, a software sales engineer, is among delegation will represent Minnesota at the Republican National Convention in Tampa Aug 27-30.

Lynch was elected an alternate to the RNC at the Republican Party of Minnesota state convention held in May. Lynch ran as a Liberty Republican, supporting Texas Congressman Dr. Ron Paul’s presidential campaign.

It will be Lynch’s first trip to the national gathering. Despite the possible threat of Hurricane Isaac, he is looking forward to the experience.

“You see it on television and wonder what it looks like in real life,” Lynch said, indicating he not only looks forward to the “pageantry” of the event, but networking opportunities, speakers, events and “seeing how the Liberty Movement is doing among the hard core activists.”

“I’m just looking forward to just being a part of it,” Lynch said.

The alternate delegate from Maple Grove will be .

“Technically, Romney isn’t the nominee until the convention says he is, but we all know it’s a pageant at this point. But, I think having the presence there – we will be able to have our voice known and a lot more Ron Paul votes cast,” Lynch said.

A Minnesota resident since 1998, Lynch, his wife and three children moved to Maple Grove in 2002. He is currently a vice chair with the Senate District 34 Republicans, and is an at-large director for the state chapter of the Republican Liberty Caucus.

“Liberty means that individuals can peacefully choose how to conduct their lives and work together to accomplish their goals, without government interference or coercion,” Lynch said. “The GOP must rediscover its roots and embrace this idea once again. This is the message I'll bring to Tampa.”

Lynch said he got involved “because the Republican party talks about standing for limited-or less- government.” 

“In practice, they don’t. And, that’s why I’m involved.  I want them to back it up with their actions,” he said.

The Maple Grove resident says he is “living proof” that leadership in politics is to “who shows up.”

“If you don’t like the system, you can either withdraw yourself or get in and change it. I choose to get in and change it,” he said, indicating he hopes for other people become involved. “For me, it’s getting the message out – if you want to be part of the solution, you need to get involved.”
