Portion of County Road 81 in Maple Grove to Remain Closed Through Memorial Day Weekend

Cleanup continues from storms May 21 and 22.

A portion of County Road 81 in Maple Grove will continue to stay closed to drivers through Memorial Day weekend, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).

County Road 81, between Elm Creek Boulevard and Fernbrook Lane, closed on Tuesday, May 24 after heavy weekend rainfall caused a on the roadway. Cleanup has been ongoing and will continue through the weekend.

The road will remain closed until the week of May 30 when cleanup is complete, according to a MnDOT press release, which said the road closure was needed “to maintain motorist safety during roadway cleanup activities.”

 The official detour during the closure is as follows:

  • Westbound: West on County Road 30 to Fernbrook Lane and north to County Road 81.
  • Eastbound: South of Fernbrook Lane to County Road 30 and east to County Road 81.

In addition to the official detour, officials said an alternate route during the closure is to use Maple Grove Parkway to and from County Road 81 instead of Fernbrook Lane and to also stay on County Road 30 going east until the railroad tracks at County Road 81.

“Mn/DOT, the 610 contractor, Hennepin County and the city of Maple Grove are working together to provide signage and to make as many changes to signal timing as possible to improve movements through the area,” the city of Maple Grove said in an e-news release to residents.
