New Wedgwood Commerce Center Addition Receives Council Approval

The request to construct a multi-tenant retail building at the Shops at Wedgewood in Maple Grove received plat and plan approval.

A plan to build a 6,500 square-foot multi-tenant retail building at the Shops of Wedgewood recently received Maple Grove City Council.

The proposed area, near Wedgewood Lane and Bass Lake Road in southern Maple Grove, had received conceptual approval for a retail building in 2005 according to documents provided to Maple Grove planning commission.

The architecture proposed for the site would be similar to other buildings in the area.

No potential tenants have been announced for the building yet, although the proposal does have the drive-though land around the building to “accommodate a coffee shop.” Nearby businesses include Solos Pizza Cafe and CVS.

The PUD development stage plan and final plat was recommended by the planning commission at its Sept. 10 meeting. Conversation about the proposed multi-tenant retail building during the planning commission primarily focused around drive-though potential for the area.

“This creates a turning movement off of Vinewood Lane (which is a private road) that is not ideal as it would be a sharp u-turn,” Maple Grove City Planner Peter Vickerman wrote in a report to the planning commission. “Staff doesn’t see any alternatives and it is set back far enough from Bass Lake Road there should not be any stacking issues if someone can’t make the u-turn.”

The Wedgwood Commerce Centre 18th  addition PUD development stage plan and final plat was approved at the Oct. 1 Maple Grove City Council meeting.
