Honest 1 Auto Care went before the Maple Grove Planning Commission Nov. 26 requesting a PUD Concept Plan amendment and PUD Development Plan and Final Plat to construct a 5,317 automotive service building. The commission unanimously recommended approval of the requests.

If approved by the Maple Grove City Council at a future meeting, the building would be constructed on a piece of land between Original Pancake House and Jimmy John’s parking lot at Wedgwood Commerce Center.

The development site is the last retail parcel at Wedgwood, according to the applicant representative at the commission meeting.

“We’re delighted and very excited about the use,” the representative said. “We feel it’s a very good driver of traffic to the retail center.”

An Honest 1 Auto Care representative said the business is a “neighborhood shop” – adopting a “Starbucks meets auto care” feel that provides a “clean, sanitary environment” that “caters to female clientele.”

Some of the highlights of the business and possible Maple Grove location, as shared at the Maple Grove Planning Commission meeting, include:

  • Honest 1 Auto Care provides automotive services and repair. It does not offer body work and would not be used as a body shop. Approximately 12-15 cars would be serviced a day with minimal vehicles left overnight and no onsite tow trucks.
  • Proposed architecture would be similar to others buildings in the area with a mixture of brick, stone and glass.
  • Large garage doors would be on the east side of the building with the customer pedestrian entrance on the west side.
  • The Maple Grove location would be ninth in the Twin Cities area. There are about 30 nationwide.

If approved by the Maple Grove City Council, the Honest 1 Auto Care representative indicated the new business could be open by summer 2013.

Approval is scheduled to be decided by the Maple Grove City Council at the Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 meeting.

Wedgwood Commerce Center is located near Interstate 494 and Bass Lake Road in Maple Grove.
