Maple Grove Looks to Buy Property for Future Highway 610 Expansion

The Maple Grove City Council approved a purchase agreement for a property on 105th Avenue North.

As Maple Grove city leaders look forward to a possible future expansion on Highway 610, one property in the area will likely soon be owned by the city.

The Maple Grove City Council approved a purchase agreement for a home and property at 17055 105th Avenue North for $253,000 at its March 4 meeting.

Portions of the next phase of Highway 610 “are being worked into the State Improvement Program” with a time frame of construction within the next six to eight years, Transportation Operations Engineer Marc Culver wrote in a memo to the Maple Grove City Council.

“It is very possible that a project to extend 105th Ave over I-94, which replaces the existing 101st Avenue overpass, will be accelerated to construction within the next 5 years,” Culver wrote. “That project will require acquisition of some additional right-of-way along 105th Ave, but specifically around the area that 105th Ave will cross I-94.”

By purchsing the 17055 105the Avenue property, Culver told the council the city “can avoid” displacing a future homeowner.

After finding out that the property at 17055 105th Avenue North was put up for sale after being foreclosed upon, according to Culver’s memo, the city had an appraisal completed and negotiated with the seller before agreeing on the $253,000 purchase price.

The city’s transportation fund would initially pay for the purchase. Once the Highway 610 extension project is funded, the city would ask for reimbursement from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The closing date of the purchase is anticipated at the end of March 2013.
