Maple Grove City Council Awards Contract for Bridge Replacement Project

Two bridges in northwestern Maple Grove moved closer to structure replacement as the Maple Grove City Council awarded the project to R.L. Larason Excavating at their Dec. 3 meeting.

The bridges are located at 105th Avenue North over Rush Creek and Dunkirk Lane North over Rush Creek, according to a memo provided to the Council at the Dec. 3 meeting.

Eight bids were received for the project. The project was awarded to the lowest bidder, R.L. Larson Excavating Inc., which submitted a bid of $534,722.82 for the project.

“This bid is 23% below the engineer’s estimate of $700,000,” wrote Transportation Operations Engineer Marc Culver in a memo provided to the Council. “The timing of the bid and the opportunity for the contractor to do this work yet this year contributed to the favorable price.”

The Maple Grove City Council approved plans for the project at its Oct. 15, 2012 meeting. 

The bridge replacements are estimated to begin within the next few months, according to Culver, “assuming the materials required for the bridges can be acquired in a reasonable time frame.”

“This is ideal given the low elevation of the creek which significantly reduces the cost to the contractor to bypass any flow in the creek,” Culver wrote. “The bridges will be replaced one at a time starting with the bridge at 105th Ave as this currently has load restrictions in place.
