Gas Line Struck Off of County Road 30 in Maple Grove Impacts Traffic

According to Centerpoint Energy, no injuries or outages reported from the gas line being hit and repairs on the line continue.

A “third party” hit a buried gas line at County Road 30 and Garland Avenue North near Walmart in Maple Grove just after noon Thursday, June 16, according to Rebecca Virden with CenterPoint Energy. The Hennepin County Dispatch Office confirmed it was a gas line that was struck, saying the line it was approximately a 5-inch buried gas line.

As part of the procedure, Virden said crews “activated an emergency response plan” and the responded to the scene. A portion of Country Road 30 was shut down for about three hours “for the safety of the area,” she said while the leak was being repaired. Those traveling near the area could smell some natural gas.

At about 3 p.m., crews had the leak under control and reported no customer outages or injuries according to CenterPoint. The County Road 30 roadway reopened to one lane around 3 p.m. while repairs continue and are likely into the early evening, Virden said.
