FedEx Looks to Build a New Facility in Maple Grove

The new distribution facility would be located on 85th Avenue, according to the city.

A FedEx distribution facility could soon built in Maple Grove.

“FedEx has come in with an application to construct a 276,431 s.f. warehouse/distribution facility located on 85th Avenue,” the Maple Grove Community Development Department wrote its recent blog.

The facility might open in 2014, according to a Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal report, and could cost $20 million to be built. The building will reportedly replace a smaller Brooklyn Park building.

Bremer Bank foreclosed on the proposed property in 2009, according to StarTribune.com.

"We're hopeful the city will approve it and the sale will continue to move forward," a Bremer Bank representative told the StarTribune.com.

Most of the job positions “will transfer from the existing hub,” a FedEx spokesperson told the Minneapolis/St. Paul Journal, although additional jobs could potentially be added.

Timeline

Application reviewed by the Maple Grove Planning Commission Feb. 25. If no delays, the request will go before the Maple Grove City Council March 4. If approved by the council, a motion will be drafted to affirm the council’s decision and brought before the council for formal adoption at the March 18.
