Election 2012 Results: Erik Johnson, LeAnn Sargent Win Maple Grove City Council Seats

The 2012 general election race for Maple Grove City Council included seven candidates.

After months of campaigning, incumbents Erik Johnson and LeAnn Sargent have been voted on to continue as Maple Grove City Council members, according to unofficial results posted on the Minnesota Secretary of State website.

Erik Johnson received 13,379 votes (28.55%) and LeAnn Sargent received 9,511 votes (20.30%).

“Maple Grove is a wonderful city.  I am both proud and humbled by the election results and look forward to working with the rest of the city council to keep Maple Grove one of the best in the nation,” Johnson wrote in a post election email to Patch.

Sargent thanked her team for putting up signs and offered congratulations to Erik Johnson on his reelection.

“I would like to thank and say bless you to all that supported me in the Maple Grove City Council Race. I am honored to be reelected for 4 more years,” Sargent wrote in a post election statement to Patch. “I have always had faith in our residents that if you run a positive, non-deceptive campaign that you will be rewarded. Negativity and smear campaigns have no place in local elections.”

“Maple Grove continues to be a City to be proud of and I will continue that legacy,” she wrote. “A councilmember could not do their job justice if it were not for Maple Grove's awesome staff.”

Candidates on the 2012 ballot in Maple Grove included Mark E. Aubart Sr. (1,936 votes), David Brown (2,806 votes), Jay A. Dirks (2,734 votes), Sherri Marie Johnson (7,870 votes) and Dan Vogtman (8,375 votes).

The Maple Grove City Council will canvass the results of the Nov. 6 general election at a special meeting 4 p.m. Nov. 9, 2012.  Once the results are canvassed, Erik Johnson and LeAnn Sargent are expected to take an oath of office January 2013.
