Corcoran, DeJournett Face Primary Election Recount

The winner of the recount will earn the second spot on the 2012 general election ballot for County Park Commissioner District 2.

After a , two County Park Commissioner District 2 candidates will face one another in a recount Wednesday.

The recount will focus on hand counting the ballots between second candidate Jennifer DeJournett and third place candidate Marilynn Corcoran.

Under state law, county offices are hand counted at county expense if the margin of difference is less than .05% and the losing candidate requests the recount, according to Hennepin County Acting County Recorder Rachel Smith.

“In this case, the third candidate, Marilynn Corcoran, submitted a request for the recount last Friday and the margin between her and the second place candidate, Jennifer DeJournett, was less than .05%,” Smith wrote in an email to Patch.

In the 2012 primary election for the County Park Commissioner District 2, three candidates were on the ballot. The top two candidates chosen by the voters proceed to the general election.

Candidate Rick Theisen lead the trio in the primary and advances to the 2012 general election. Unofficial results by provided by the Minnesota Secretary of State website have DeJournett with 1,572 votes and Corcoran trailing with 1,551 votes.

The recount will begin at 9 a.m. at the and is expected to be done the same day. 

It was the first time Maple Grove was part of District 2 County Park Commissioner for an election. Before the  earlier this year, Maple Grove was part of District 1. Effective Jan. 1, 2013, Three Rivers Park District 2 will represent Maple Grove, most of Brooklyn Park, Champlin, Dayton and Osseo. As a result, incumbent Marilynn Corcoran faced Jennifer DeJournett and Rick Theisen in the 2012 primary Aug. 14.
