At First Forum, Republicans Running for MN Governor Agree to Agree

Scott Honour, Jeff Johnson, Dave Thompson and Kurt Zellers are vying for party endorsement—but only two promised to abide by it, according to media reports.

Four men seeking the Republican Party endorsement for Minnesota governor met in Mounds View Thursday at the race's first forum. 
The candidates are: 

They voiced similar takes on issues but Thompson and Johnson said they wouldn't mount a primary campaign if they lost the endorsement battle, while Zellers and Honour signaled their campaigns might continue to a primary election, the St. Paul Pioneer Press and MinnPost reported

  • "I want to build a Minnesota economy where careers stay here and businesses are built here." - Zellers (Pioneer Press)
  • “You’ve got to be willing to stand for your principles, but not everything’s a principle.” - Thompson (MinnPost)
  • "I’m in this to actually change the direction of government." - Johnson (Star Tribune)
  • “We have to do a better job of conveying why our ideas really are the best ideas for everyone." -Honour (MinnPost)
