The first round of the 2012 election season is underway Tuesday, Aug. 14 with the primary elections. Here are five things to know about the election and ballot in Maple Grove.

- Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
- To find your polling place, visit the poll place finder on the Minnesota Secretary of State website. You’ll be able to find your polling place, including a map of all of the polling places.
- Candidates from several federal, state and county offices will be on the primary ballot. The ballot contains both a partisan and nonpartisan ballot. On the partisan ballot, voters are “permitted to vote for candidates of one political party only,” according to the city of Maple Grove sample ballot.
- Wondering which candidates are on your ballot? Head back to the Minnesota Secretary of State website, type in your address and you’ll be able to find sample ballot.
- Will you be gone on Aug. 14? You might still be able to vote absentee in person until 5 p.m. Aug. 13. According to the Minnesota Secretary of State website, you might be able to vote absentee if you will be: absence from your precinct, illness or disability, serving as an election judge in another precinct, religious discipline or observance of religious holiday or eligible emergency declared by the governor or quarantine declared by the federal or state government.
