Throughout the afternoon and into Friday evening, law enforcement tried to communicate with the man, but he refused to respond, according to Stille.

Robots were sent into the home to determine the status of the situation, but it was difficult to maneuver through clutter and barricades the man had set up in the townhome, according to Stille.

Shortly after midnight, the tactical team went into the home and talked the man into surrendering the weapon and himself.

At 2:35 a.m. Saturday, the scene was cleared and neighbors were allowed to return to their homes, Stille said.

A fully loaded shotgun and multiple rounds of ammunition were recovered, he added.

The man was then transferred to North Memorial Medical Center, Stille said.  Police continue to investigate the incident.

In addition to Maple Grove Police, Plymouth and Minneapolis Police, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and Maple Grove Fire Department responded to the standoff.
