Rocking Chair Rescue, Freezer Fire: Fire Blotter

A weekly report of incidents responded to by the Maple Grove Fire Department.

The following are incidents responded to by the  from June 25 through July 1, 2012 as provided by the Maple Grove Fire Department

June 25

  • 7200 block of Polaris Lane North. Smoke detector activation, no fire – construction.

  • 9400 block of Dunkirk Lane North. Building fire. Fire in open top freezer in grocery area.  Employees observed smoke in area, investigated and found fire.  Smoke detectors were activated and fire department was alerted.  Flames were present when employees arrived at freezer and a fire extinguisher to put out fire.  No fire sprinklers activated, fire too small.  Employees opened roof hatches to vent smoke from building.  According to the fire department, it appeared the damage was confined to the freezer mechanical equipment and interior of the freezer space, and the packaged food that was in this space.
  • 13300 block of Maple Knoll Way. Arcing, shorted electrical equipment.
  • 16800 block of 79th Avenue North. Carbon monoxide detector activation due to malfunction.

June 27

  • 7800 Vinewood Lane North. Good intent call, security alarm

  • 101st Avenue North and eastbound Interstate 94.  No Incident found on arrival at dispatch address.
  •  6900 block of Magda Drive. Unauthorized burning - no permit .
  •  11400 block of  73rd Avenue North. Water or steam leak. Employee pulling out rack in drying room struck fire sprinkler head causing water flow and alarm.

June 30

  • 16600 block of 92nd Avenue North. Smoke detector activation, no fire – construction.
  • 16800 block of 72nd Place North. Smoke detector activation due to malfunction.
  • 10600 block of Lancaster Lane North. Arcing, shorted electrical equipment.
  • 13000 block of 62nd Place North. Assist police or other governmental agency.

July 1

  • 16600 block of 92nd Avenue North. Burnt food.
  • 15100 block of 92nd Place North.  Dispatched to assist in extrication of a four-year old girl whose leg was trapped in a wooden rocking chair.  North Memorial Ambulance and firefighters cut the spindle off the chair to free the child.  Ambulance personnel then evaluated the girl for injuries.
