Updated: Pedestrian Struck, Killed Near Weaver Lake Road in Maple Grove

Police say the woman was hit by a vehicle around 1:36 a.m. Thursday morning near the intersection of Weaver Lake Road and Main Street in Maple Grove and has been identified.

The Maple Grove Police Department issued the following press release:

The victim of the pedestrian fatality on Aug. 23, 2012, in Maple Grove has been positively identified. At this time her name is not being released until family members are notified. The Maple Grove Police Department is still investigating this incident.

In the release, police stated the victim was "struck by a motor vehicle on Weaver Lake Road east of Main Street in Maple Grove" about 1:36 a.m. Thursday. "When officers responded to the scene they found a pedestrian victim deceased," according to the release.

The identity of the victim was initially unknown to law enforcement, who described her as "a white female, approximately 5’4 tall, 35 to 40 years of age, and blonde shoulder length hair" and had asked the public for their assistance in identifying the victim.

A woman is dead following a fatal pedestrian and vehicle incident Thursday, Aug. 23 at the intersection of Weaver Lake Road and Main Street in Maple Grove. 

The was called to the area about 1:36 a.m. on a report the incident, according to Maple Grove Police Capt. Keith Terlinden. Upon arriving, officers found the female victim dead at the scene.

The victim currently remains unidentified and police are working with the Hennepin County Medical Examiner and Hennepin County Crime Lab to identify her, Terlinden said. 

The driver of the vechile was not injuried. 

"We do not believe alcohol was a factor," Terlinden said. 

The investigation is still ongoing. Patch will have further updates as they become available.
