Maple Grove's Hawaii Spa Takes Cash From Undercover Officer for 'Massage'

The city of Maple Grove has suspended Hawaii Spa's business license.

The city of Maple Grove has suspended Hawaii Spa's business license after an employee of Hawaii Spa allegedly accepted cash from an undercover officer for the purpose of sexual activity.

The "massage" business is located at 7382 Kirkwood Court in Maple Grove. After the business license is suspended on Jan, 21, the city council will schedule a license revocation hearing for Feb. 3.

Eswin Berrios has held a commercial business certificate for Hawaii Spa since Nov. 14. In his application for licensure, Berrios described his hour of operations as 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Jan. 2, the Maple Grove Police Department investigated a report that Hawaii Spa was operating outside of permissible business hours.

An undercover officer visited Hawaii Spa at 10:20 p.m., outside of lawful business hours, for a scheduled massage. During the course of the investigation, an employee of Hawaii Spa accepted cash from the officer for the purpose of sexual activity, according to city documents.

For this conduct, the Maple Grove Police Department charged the employee with prostitution and performing massage services without a license. Berrios was also charged with aiding an offender.

The actions of Berrios, as owner and operator of Hawaii Spa, and his employees are in violation of several provisions of Maple Grove City Code. City Code provides that the City Council may suspend any business license, without notice, pending a hearing on revocation within 30 days following the suspension.
