Maple Grove Receives Third Place Award for National Night Out 2012

The national recognition was received for Maple Grove in the cities ranging from 50,000 to 99,000 residents category.

National Night Out activities throughout Maple Grove in August recently earned the city a third place national award.

The Maple Grove Police Department announced the award on its Facebook page Thursday recognizing resident, block captains, city staff and more. City award winners were announced on Monday on the National Association of Town Watch website.

“We are proud of the third place finish nationally for the category of cities with a population of 50,000 to 99,000. With the support of our elected officials and the hard work of the men and women in our organization, we are able to highlight the importance of community involvement and all the principles surrounding National Night Out,” Maple Grove Police Captain Keith Terlinden wrote in an email to Patch Thursday.

National Night Out is an annual event “designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back,” according to a memo from Police Chief Dave Jess to the city council at the May 21 meeting.

In addition to a kickoff event Aug. 7 at the Maple Grove Community Center, representatives from the Maple Grove Police, Fire, City Council, Administration, and Maple Grove Hospital/North Memorial visited some of the more than 100 neighborhood parties in Maple Grove for the 2012 National Night Out.
