Maple Grove Man, 22, Dies In Snowmobile Crash

Jared Wallenfelsz was found with his snowmobile near his family's cabin in central Minnesota.

Police believe a 22-year-old Maple Grove man died in a snowmobile crash on Saturday near his cabin in central Minnesota.

Jared Wallenfelsz was reported missing after he was last seen leaving on his snowmobile from his family's cabin on Long Lake near Burtrum around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Todd County Sheriff's Office.

Wallenfelsz was found with his snowmobile around 12:45 p.m. Saturday in the woods on the northwest side of the lake. Wallenfelsz died as a result of a crash. He was about to celebrate his 23rd birthday on Jan. 29.

The Sheriff's Office believes alcohol, poor visibility due to weather and speed to be factors.

According to Wallenfelsz's obituary, "Jared was a joy to everyone he knew. He was personable, funny, smart and loved sports. His passing will leave a void in the lives of all he touched." 

He is survived by parents, John & Lisa Wallenfelsz; brother, Alex; maternal grandparents: Jim & DiAnn Loven; paternal grandparents: James & Nita Wallenfelsz; and adoring dog, Vince.
