Grass Fire at Yard Waste Site, Flooded Vehicle: Maple Grove Fire Blotter

The Maple Grove Fire Department assisted with a building fire from a lightning strike.

The following incidents were responded to by the Maple Grove Fire Department from May 13-19, 2013. Details and incident descriptions provided by the Maple Grove Fire Department.

May 13

  • 6200 block of Nathan Lane North. Unauthorized burning - no permit.
May 14
  • 9500 block of Black Oaks Lane North. Extinguishing system activation.
  • 6700 block of Fountain Lane North. Building fire. Dispatched to deck on fire. Homeowner used garden hose to extinguish fire before fire department arrived.
  • 14700 block of 101st Avenue North. Garbage dump or sanitary landfill fire. Report of grass fire at yard waste site.  Used high pressure from E-22 and three loads of water from T-31 to control fire. Yard supervisor monitored to make sure there is no re-kindle.
  • 9200 block of Zanzibar Lane North. Dispatched to report of small grass fire.  Found small fire in grass area next to parking lot. 
May 15
  • Bass Lake Road and Vicksburg Lane. Good intent call.
  • 200 block of Harrison Street, Anoka. Cover assignment, standby, moveup.
  • 15600 block of Territorial Rd Brush or brush-and-grass mixture fire.
May 16
  • County Road 101 and County Road 3. Motor vehicle accident with injuries. Assisted caring for injured parties from motor vehicle accident.
  • 16800 block of 72nd Pl N Brush or brush-and-grass mixture fire. Dispatched to grass fire.  Fire extinguished.  Some damage to wood fencing along trail.
May 18
  • 8000 block of Orchid Lane North. Strange odor/smell.
  • 9400 block of Trenton Lane North. Unauthorized burning.
May 19
  • 9900 block of Troy Lane North. Building fire. Report of house struck by lightning. Occupants report smoke odor. Saw flame on exterior wall.  Section of roof blown off near peak. No smoke or flames visible when fire department arrived. Delay in getting ladders on to structure and to roof due to continuing lightning in the area. Used thermal imaging cameras to look for hot spots. Opened exterior wall and the interior of an outside wall to check for extension. Several circuit breakers had been tripped. Placed tarp over peak of roof and plastic sheeting on exterior wall. Assisted homeowners in calling restoration contractor. Homeowner will call electrician to check electrical circuits. Homeowner advised to monitor the home for further evidence of fire and to call 911 if anything develops.
  • 10000 block of Kilmer Lane North. Arcing, shorted electrical equipment.
  • 8100 block of Main Street North. Burnt food.
  • 17500 block of 82nd Avenue North. Passenger vehicle fire. Dispatched to vehicle fire. Vehicle was parked in street and water level in street rose from heavy rain and flooded vehicle.  Shorted wiring started to burn.  Fire out when fire department arrived.  Disconnected battery.
  • 17400 block of 72nd Avenue North. Vicinity alarm (incident in other location)
There were also nine false or malfunctioning alarm reports.
