Accident Assistance, Strange Smells: Maple Grove Fire Blotter

There was also a report of a cut gas line.

The following are incidents were responded to by the Maple Grove Fire Department from Nov. 12-18, 2012. Details provided by the fire department.

Nov. 12

  • 13600 block of 80th Circle North. Authorized controlled burning.

  • 8900 block of Olive Lane North. Vicinity alarm, incident in other location.
  • Bass Lake Road and West Fish Lake Road. Overpressure rupture of air or gas pipe/pipeline
  • 8900 block of Olive Lane North. Vicinity alarm, incident in other location.
  • 8600 block of Xenium Lane North. Unauthorized burning.

Nov. 14

  • 6600 block of Jonquil Court North. Unauthorized burning.
  • 13400 block of Maple Knoll Way. Steam, Other gas mistaken for smoke.

  • 12100 block of Elm Creek Boulevard. EMS call, excluding vehicle accident with injury. Person lying on ground in shopping center complex, provided care until police and ambulance arrived on scene. 
  • 13600 block of 80th Circle North. Gas leak. Contractor was excavating for electrical service to a new building and cut a natural gas line. Checked for gas in adjoining building and found nothing. Stood by on site until CenterPoint Energy arrived on scene and pinched off the line.

Nov. 16

  • 16000 block of 70th Place North. Overheated motor.
  • 10500 block of Nathan Lane North. Strange odor/smell. Fire department called to investigate a chemical odor in a four-unit townhome complex.  Found that a unit had been painted and the unusual odor was from the paint.

Nov. 17

  • 7000 block of Hemlock Lane North. Unintentional transmission of alarm.
  • 13800 block of 94th Avenue North. Strange odor/smell. Report of smoke coming from residential mailbox and sulfur odor. Found used smoke bombs inside mailbox at this location. No apparent damage to mailbox.  Unknown who may have set off the smoke bombs.
  • 14400 block of Weaver Lake Road North. Assist police or other governmental agency. Stations #2 and #4 initially dispatched for rescue/extrication. A car traveling eastbound on Interstate 94 rolled over near Maple Grove Parkway. It landed back on its wheels and continued on driving erratically in median and across all lanes of freeway. The vehicle went off on Weaver Lake Road exit and was forced into parking lot of Applebee’s by a police car. They were initially unable to gain access to the driver so fire was called. No extrication needed. Station #4 cancelled.  E-21 crew spread absorbent on parking lot to deal with leaking engine fluids. Driver was transported by North Ambulance.

Nov. 18

  • 9800 block of Fernbrook Lane North. Steam, vapor, fog or dust thought to be smoke.
  • 7100 block of East Fish Lake Road. Assist police or other governmental agency.
  • 14000 block of 68th Place North. Grass fire. Dispatched to check on a smoldering tree near maintenance shop in Fish Lake Regional Park.  Found a small fire that appears to have started from fireworks found in the area.

There were also 10 false or malfunctioning alarm incidents.
