Crimson Wrestlers Rumble with the Elks

The Maple Grove Crimson wrestling team traveled to Elk River Thursday night to rumble with the Elks. After the first 10 wrestlers the Crimson were down 22-25. Read more to find out who won.

The Maple Grove Crimson wrestlers traveled to Elk River on Thursday afternoon to take on the Elk River Elks. After three periods, Tyler Shilson (106) fell to his opponent 2-3 to start the match. Brad Osatiuk (113) wrestled for three periods and earned a 10-2 major decision to put the Crimson up 4-3. Logan Dick (120) extended the Crimson’s lead to 7-3 with a 6-2 win by decision over his opponent.  The Elks came roaring back with three wins by fall at 126, 132 and 138 as the Crimson lose the lead 7-21. Dominic Thielen (145) ended the roar with his third win in his last three conference matches with a 7-4 win by decision. Will Suehr (152) followed suit with an impressive match that ended with him winning by fall at 3:41 and a helping his team get back into the match with a score of 16-21. At 160, the Crimson lost by major decision. 

Crimson sophomore Quin Anderson took to the mat next at 170. It was clear from the moment the referee blew his whistle to start the match and the Crimson wrestler quickly shot his opponent, Quin was dialed in. Quin started the match aggressively with a quick shot and take-down for 2. Almost as if he was running out of time in the third period, Quin quickly and efficiently turned his opponent on his back and quickly added three more back points to make it 5-0. His opponent had no intention of giving in and fought back with a reverse to make it 5-2 after the first period. Quin started the second period on top and again quickly went to work by rolling over his opponent and scoring three back points and nearly pinning his opponent and bringing the well attended Crimson fan to their feet.  As time ran out on the second period, Quin scored three more back points to bring the score to 11-1. Quin started the third period on top but gave up two points on a reversal. Quin, determined to win the match, took the points back with his own reversal and then put his opponent on his back and finished him off with a fall at 5:46 to earn his first varsity win of the year and close the gap to 22-25.

Unfortunately for the Crimson, they lost by decision at 182 and lost by forfeit at 195, 220 and Heavyweight to lose the match 22-46.

Crimson Coach Troy Suebert was encouraged by the success of the middleweights. “It was great to see our middleweights wrestle well tonight.  They’ve been working very hard at practice and today they were rewarded with wins on the matt.
