Interstate 494 Reopens in Maple Grove, Hours After Vehicle Accident Closes Roadway

Morning accident closed major roadway for approximately three hours for crash cleanup.

A multi-car vehicle that left southbound Interstate 494 closed for hours Wednesday, June 1 reopened to traffic shortly after 1 p.m., according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The accident happened around 9 a.m., according to Hennepin County Dispatch.  

The accident involved three vehicles resulting in “minor injuries” of the occupants, the Minnesota State Patrol said.  Debris from accident littered the southbound Interstate 494, causing the roadway to be closed and motorists with the inability to gain access to southbound Interstate 494 from east or west Interstate 94 for about three hours after the accident.

The Star Tribune is reporting that, according to Minnesota Department of Transportation's metro traffic control center, a medical helicopter left with a patient after the accident. No additional details are available on potential injuries. 

, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, MnDOT and other emergency personal reported to the scene and assisted with the closure and cleanup.
